FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 11, 2019
NEW YORK CITY, NY - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will address cows and how they are adding to greenhouse gases at the Great New York State Fair in August. Her talk will be part of the overall effort to push some of the items of the Green New Deal, to encourage people everywhere and cows, to “get real” with gas emissions.
Her effort is part of the Green New Deal effort that seeks to eliminate or reduce gas emissions, including methane gas emissions from cows. The deal calls for the elimination of farting cows, which includes all cows, since all cows fart or produce methane gas from either their mouths, by burping, or their bowels, by farting.
Initially, Ocasio-Cortez was to address farmers at the fair, but decided to make a more direct approach by talking to cows by themselves. “I wanted to see if I could talk to them about what they eat, and if they could stop eating Mexican food like beans and things like that,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “It’s something that works for people, so we’re just going to try it for cows.”
Ocasio-Cortez, who occasionally resembles a ditzy woman, is on record saying the following during a radio show interview: “In the deal, what we talk about, and it’s true, is that we need to take a look at factory farming, you know? Period. It’s wild."
“It’s not to say you get rid of agriculture. It’s not to say we’re going to force everybody to go vegan or anything crazy like that. But, it’s to say, listen, we got to address factory farming,” she added. “Maybe we shouldn’t be eating a hamburger for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Like, let’s keep it real.”
She then concluded: “But, we have to take a look at everything, and what we need to realize is that climate change is about every choice that we make in our lives.” Fair organizers say they will try to get the cows together so Ocasio-Cortez can address them as a group and not separately, by each individual breed of cow.
The fair will include both competitions for both dairy and beef cattle, as well as competitions for llamas and goats. According to some estimates, dairy cows emit over twice the amount of methane as a beef cow. Items from the Green New Deal were leaked and caused quite a stir because of the ambitious or unrealistic goals, which include:
* the United States to be free of carbon emissions within 10 years without the use of nuclear power;
* every building in the United States to be replaced or retrofitted in green fashion;
* universal healthcare;
* free college education;
* the replacement of airplanes with high-speed trains;
* charging stations “everywhere” (this is the sort of exactness the proposal contains);
* replacement of “every combustion-engine vehicle,”;
* government-provided jobs;
* family and medical leave;
* retirement security;
* the abolition of “farting cows.”;
* total “economic security” for anyone “unable or unwilling to work.”
The Great New York State Fair is a 12-day showcase of agriculture, entertainment, education and technology. The first fair took place in Syracuse in 1841 and took permanent residence there in 1890. It is the oldest and one of the largest state fairs in the United States., with nearly one million visitors annually.
