Former Vice President Joe Biden to offer shoulder massage teaching workshops for International Association of Fire Fighters
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 25, 2019
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Former Vice President Joe Biden will coach fire fighters of the International Association of Fire Fighters on the finer points of massaging the shoulders of women. The workshops to be led by the vice president and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, will teach methods of relieving stress and making women feel more comfortable, as the vice president has often attempted to do during many public events.
IAFF President Harold A. Schaitberger, said as an organization that will endorse the vice-president, it’s important to support the activities of the candidate.
“We want to be out front in our support of the vice-president,” Schaitberger said. “If that means offering massages to women who are in distress, that’s what we will do.”
The vice president has been seen on many occasions going out of his way to touch women, including teen girls in the course of his work as vice president.
Schaitberger said some massage techniques could benefit women who are in distress during emergencies like fires and other incidents.
Massage has been shown to benefit the people receiving the massage, Schaitberger said.
“We look forward to offering massage to people in emergency situations, but especially women and teen girls, since the vice president has offered this as a service to people during his long public service career.”
With how supportive Pres. Trump has been of emergency workers, including police, firefighters, and unions in general, some people are surprised that Schaitberger has come out in favor of endorsing the vice president just days after the vice president announced his candidacy.
In a letter to union members, Schaitberger said union dues are not given to any one candidate, but says the union helped elect many Republican and Democrat candidates by donating to their campaigns.
The list of issues that he says are important to union members include, protecting firefighters on the job, improving the standard of living, protecting your safety and health, securing affordable healthcare, making sure you come hoe at the end of each shift, and providing a secure retirement.
Based on this criteria, it’s not clear why the union, or Schaitberger, would endorse Biden for president, instead of Trump. It's possible that Schaitberger is friends with Biden, or has had a prior relationship with him. If this is the case, Schaitberger should be honest about that relationships instead of claiming that Biden as a candidate would serve the union members better than Trump would.
