Is America just one more nation whose time has come and gone? Yes, we've done some great things, like fight against tyranny and slavery. But there are lots of people who are just not happy with America, and are trying to take it down, from the inside. It seems like some are trying to destroy our great nation from within.
How and why do powerful nations live and die? Germany was a great nation. And yet, it tried to destroy an entire continent, and it was itself destroyed. What about the Roman Empire, another great nation state? Or the Soviet Union. Nations can be attacked and destroyed from the outside, but they can also die from the inside, by losing the thing that made them great. Could that every happen to America?
Americans traditionally value faith, family the national anthem, things that symbolize what we are about as a nation. But there are those in America who do not share these values of how it is distinctly different or great. They want to end the America we love. They believe that America is defined by class oppression. And white supremacy. They want to remake America. For that to happen, America as we know it must die. Who will stop them?
What about Donald Trump? When he said he was going to run for president, everyone had a good laugh at him. But not the American people.
“I am your voice,” he said on one of his campaign events. "I am with you. I will fight for you. And I will win for you."
Trump led the nation, or at least his followers, with this popular mantra:
"We will make America strong again.
We will make America proud again.
We will make America safe again.
We will make America great again."
Trump seemed to be very much in love with America. But there were lots of people who did not appreciate the fact that he was elected as the first outsider, the first businessman, the first real estate tycoon, and the first reality TV star. After he was elected, violent protested broke out, even during his inauguration. What was the left’s response to him being elected, shame on you for electing Donald Trump.
More than 50 House Democrats boycotted the inauguration. The left did show up, to riot. The election of Donald Trump, a complete outsider, may seem like something that is unprecedented.
But we have actually been here before, when America elected the first Republican president, Abraham Lincoln. Then too, Democrats viciously attacked him. They called him an extremist and an authoritarian. Some people wanted to break up the country instead of accept his election. Lincoln saved America the first time, and now, by tragic necessity, Trump is in a similar situation. What will the Democrats try this time? Maybe call him a racist and a fascist?
But this has happened before. Labels like these have been used before to smear conservatives, Republicans, Christians and American patriots. Is voting for Trump like voting for Hitler? Did Trump win because of fascism and white supremacy? Did he revive the worst strains of racism?
Wouldn’t that justify the left in rejecting the results of the election? But what if they are wrong? If America is good, aren’t we morally obligated to defend her? The stakes could not be higher. We are talking about the greatest nation on earth. Who are the real fascists? Who are the real racists? In order to defend our great country, this republic, we must learn the truth.
