We all know the story of the intolerant, poor, uneducated white man in “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Trouble is, if it the movie were made today, a black congresswomen representing Los Angeles would be the best fit for the role of Bob Ewell, even if she is black.
Waters has taken the mantle of intolerance and run with it, to the point that much of what has occurred since her public encouragement to act the part of Ewell and attack conservatives, Republicans, could easily be attributed to her. This is not supposed to be what Democrats and people like her are supposed to be about. They are supposed to be living out the tolerant, freedom loving dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who had to fight for the right to appear publicly.
But she is definitely the face of Ewell. She encouraged people to get in the faces of Republicans, conservatives, the members of Trump’s cabinet, in a famous public appearance. This is what she said:
“If you think we’re rallying now, you ain’t seen nothing yet,” Water said. “Already, you have members of your Cabinet that are being booed out of restaurants … who have protesters taking up at their house, who say, ‘No peace, no sleep! No peace, no sleep!'”
She went on making it clear that she wanted administration officials attacked and harassed in public.
“Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up and if you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere,” Waters declared.
Shockingly, this seems to be the best idea she and other Democrats have for opposing Trump. But this is not how America is supposed to operate. The credit, the respect, should go to the winner, to the people who win fair and square, whether it’s an election or anything else. This is what we were supposed to learn in grade school.
The right thing to do is to try to do better the next time. But today, the rules have changed. Today if someone loses, a group of people think that the best means of stopping your opponent is to become nasty, to deny them the ability to speak or assemble in public. Unfortunately, our country, the United States and a sports bar in Lyon, France, seem to have a plentiful supply of these people. People yelled fxxx Trump while Fox news was broadcasting live in a bar there for the Women's World Cup.
This kind of behavior is as un American as betting against your own team in sports, fixing a match. It's quite popular however, for many people in the United States, most of whom have lost the ability to reason. Why not make it difficult for these people to show up in public in a way that is similar to how blacks were not allowed in restaurants and Jews were forced out of their homes, their businesses in Germany during the rule of Adolf Hitler? Why not herd them into squares because you think they are inferior or mentally unstable?
Waters, Antifa, liberals and Democrats are the new face of the intolerant racist white man, a man who all too well represented the South - someone who spit in the face of tolerance, of all that is good and right and just. Now, instead of an ugly white man, we have a bar tender in Chicago who spat in the face of Donald Trump, Jr.
There are other examples of this behavior: in restaurants in New York City and in a quaint restaurant in Lexington, Virginia. The nation has sprouted intolerant leftists. "Glory Road," is a movie about skilled, hard working, talented athletes, and others who were intolerant.
Today, who represents the young black athletes who were persecuted throughout the South? Trump, conservatives, Republicans, and Christians. Who represents the whites in the crowd yelling, throwing food at them, trashing their hotel room, ganging up on a lone black athlete in a restaurant bathroom? Waters, Democrats, and Antifa. In Portland recently a number of black masked Antifa activists repeatedly punched and kicked a young journalist, Andy Ngo, even when he was unable to defend himself.
Many Chinese recall this behavior by the Red Guards during the Cultural Revolution of 1966, a movement encouraged by Mao Zedong. They were a fanatical group of students who attacked anyone and anything they considered a threat to Mao or his socialist vision.
What began as a movement of student groups to debate bourgeois ideas in culture becoame a nationwide movement demanding cleansing, rethinking and transformation. The Red Guards targeted intellectuals, and capitalists were intimidated and physically attacked. In some cases, people who owned property were publicly humiliated and summarily shot.
But what was a memory of horror seems to have been welcomed by leftists to the shores of America. The new new Jim Crow for conservatives is to deny them access to public events, to even march in a street and assemble peaceably. Didn't America fight a war to give everybody the right to do these things? Yes, it was the Revolutionary War. Don't we have a Bill of Rights to help protect these freedoms? But just as the the KKK lacked any rational reason for trying to keep blacks in the South from being integrated into society, so too are people who yell Fxxx Trump at campaign rallys.
Although Waters has encouraged this hyper intolerance, it’s been going on since Trump started packing campaign events across the country. All of the Bob Ewells traveled from city to city for the express purpose of disrupting as many Trump campaign events as possible. In some cities and counties, activists blocked traffic. In Chicago, activists were successful in getting a campaign event shut down. This was seen as a great thing by liberal activists.
Let’s hope they all learn the lesson of “To Kill a Mockingbird.” This ugly Bob Ewell behavior has no place in a courtroom, in the public square in Los Angeles, in a sports bar in Lyon, France, or a bar in Chicago. It has no place in America or in any country that has paid a high price for the freedoms that most of us hold dear.
